We've had a few pretty nice days over the weekend (finally) so we decided it was a good time to cook out on the grill. We invited the kids over for dinner yesterday and made potato salad, macaroni salad, steaks, burgers and chocolate mousse.
About a half hour before the kids arrived Ken cleaned the grill and fired it up. He put the steaks on first and a short time later the burgers. My work was done so I decided to play a computer game until the kids arrived. Not long into the cooking process Ken came in the house to use the bathroom, I didn't pay attention to the fact he was in there for a while until I heard crackling and roaring sounds. I got up and looked around and saw smoke and flames rolling out of the grill! The food is on fire!!! I ran out to the back deck and threw the grill cover open and flames shot into the air. Ooohhh noooo, our steaks and burgers are burnt... black... charred. After the flames calmed down a little I moved the meat to the top rack of the grill and Ken came outside and saw all the commotion. I told him what had happened and said, "Now what are we going to do? We don't have any meat for dinner and the kids will be here shortly?" Ken told me to go into the house and get a knife. He cut off the burnt/black and salvaged all of the meat except two burgers. Even though they were kind of dry, they were still edible.

Burger King and their flame-broiled burgers have nothing on Ken! LOL! How was the potato salad? Was it Ken's famous potato salad? How do you make chocolate mousse?

That sounds like something I would do.

Oh no! So sorry to hear about the flames and charred food. Glad to hear you were able to salvage most of it.
